About Jon (He/Him)
Registered Clinical Counsellor, IFS Therapist
I'm Glad You're Here
If you are here, then it likely means that some part of you is hoping to make a change. Taking that first step towards peeling away the layers of whatever life has thrown at you can be challenging, and I am always moved by the courage it takes to reach out for help. For those on their second, third, hundredth, or thousandth steps in their journeys; for whom the path of healing has been comprised of years of steady walking, I feel privileged to walk alongside you.
I desire to create a space of understanding and safety while we explore the layers of experiences that have protectively served you over the years, but may also be preventing you from being who you are authentically.
I am passionate about working with individuals who struggle with feelings of anxiety and depression, who have experienced the impact of trauma in their lives, struggle with feelings of shame, self-identity issues, or relational conflict, or have had their own experiences in the medical or mental health system.
I take a holistic approach to mental health, and work with all the different parts of a person to help alleviate symptoms that may have felt immovable for a long time. I’m excited to support you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery.
My Background and Approach
Before completing my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, I worked extensively with Fraser Health Authority and Family and Community Support Services for 10 years. I have learned to deeply appreciate the resilience of the human spirit in these spaces and bring this appreciation and experience into the work I offer with clients.
People often describe me as a gentle and calm presence who fosters openness to explore challenging topics, enabling greater clarity and balance.
The main approach I use is Internal Family Systems (IFS), but my therapeutic “toolbox” is diverse and draws from modalities such as Emotion-focused therapy, Gestalt therapy, Dialectical behavioural therapy, and narrative approaches. All of this allows us to build a greater knowledge of your internal world and explore feelings of "stuckness" in a unique way by accessing your inner capacity for compassion, curiosity and confidence. My goal in this is to help access your innate ability to heal and foster hope and freedom within difficult experiences.
Outside the Office
Outside of sessions, I am committed to ongoing personal learning and growth, ensuring that I can offer the most effective and compassionate care to our work together. I enjoy connecting with my kids and partner, reading and writing, and soaking up nature in its many forms. I look forward to accompanying you on your journey towards healing and well-being.
